John Blackthorne(7/31/2015 2:05:08 PM) I take issue with the reviewer's fairly harsh criticism of the play. I got the impression that Mr. or Ms. Karlan was confronting blocked urges that impelled the wealthy man to use his tools, his money, to overcome deep inhibitions (i.e., the father's admonitions.). To me, the issue of the play, that displaced energy has its dangers, is real. I don't believe that is a "tired" theme or that the structure was problematic. It seems the reviewer just couldn't understand what was going on. And if it's not didactic, so what?
